a line I had to cut from my acknowledgments: "Libraries are one of humanity’s greatest institutions (they let you take the books home for free!), and they are often staffed by humanity’s noblest people."
User avatar

Why did that line have to be cut?
User avatar
nickj - Wed Jul 19, 2017 11:18 pm
yeah, every single person in that acknowledgment was really more important than the library?? :bart:

oh, he cut everything that gave my writing any flavor beyond wet paper. Which is the point of the document, I guess, but it makes the thing dull even for me

be honest: when’s the next that you think you’ll listen to Weird Al or El Vez?
User avatar
dogstarz - Fri Jul 21, 2017 9:03 am
Weird Al has a pretty high chance to be listened to within the year

I prefer Blelvis, the black Elvis. He’s a DC legend
User avatar
snow_and_rain - Fri Jul 21, 2017 9:25 am
He’s long accused El Vez of stealing his schtick

I hope that Dread Zeppelin, the white reggae Zep ’cover’ band got a mention...

honest: I didn’t listen to them much beyond the scope of my project. It’s interesting stuff that gets me going on multiple levels, but it’s not what I jam to. My advisor told me *not* to write on the Dead, and the academic trade winds blow against a straight-up "classical" Indian project (plus no funding to travel to India), so I picked a topic that interested me and went with it

hmm - why not the Dead? from an academia perspective, why would an advisor shut that down as a doctoral focus?
User avatar
dogstarz - Fri Jul 21, 2017 5:49 pm
The real question we should be asking is how many papers have been written about The Dead by Freedomhaul?

Pig Street! - Sun Jul 23, 2017 5:26 pm
Between the awesome news that i will hopefully be a Grandaddy, my daughter is expecting December 28th, the recent Google Drive for the Garcia Freaks and some newfound (to me) Ethiopian Jazz player Mulatu Astatke music; i say the summer has been chillin :cool2:

his argument was that the Dead made a better theory topic than a musicology topic. And while studying the Dead is as respectable as it’s likely to get, it’s still too much of a pigeonhole
