My command is subordinate to the Pacific Submarine force. Those guys are 6 hours behind us. When they get an itch they need to scratch, they don’t get their good ideas until about 1100 AM HST, 5:00 PM here in Virginia. So we spin and churn for three hours and they get some more good ideas. I’ve already shifted my working hours from 1000-1800, but 1000-2100 has been the norm.

@nickj: I guess I wasn’t clear about my post saying Frank Sinatra is worthy of consideration as greatest American male vocalist of the 20th century. He’s worthy of note because he’s a great vocalist, period. I only mentioned his commercial success and longevity as "filler" in that post, and that both are also noteworhy in their own right,.

Other folks that are worthy, imo, of being in the convo: Nat King Cole, Clype McPhatter, Ben E. King and Smokey Robinson

I hear ya arm... didn’t mean to imply that you were basing Sinatra’s greatness solely on his commerical success and longevity

i will throw Bob Dylan into this conversation. Before you guys groan about his grumbling vocals, I think it fits America perfectly in the 20th century. His voice is kinda dirty, not filtered and limited. Much of which can be said of America in the 20th century
