I rarely bother, but I got the FLAC for Barton and the sound is stupendous.

pig, if you have a link, I’d love to get those in FLAC -- might as well go big, right?

the Wheel > Wharf Rat from the 77 Boston show has some of the best playing of the night :2c:
User avatar
nickj - Mon May 08, 2017 9:12 am
agreed. besides the Half Step>Big River, that Wheel>Wharf segment is the part that I return to most often

hell yeah! I’d forgotten how insane that Half Step is. Jerry doesn’t stop! my vague sense is that they don’t start breaking the song (and particularly the major-key jam pre "Rio Grande-o") open until later in that year, correct? with Englishtown being a classic example (and one of the first?)
User avatar
nickj - Mon May 08, 2017 11:57 am
they started stretching out in those jams when they brought it back in mid-76, but those tend to be more mellow -- they really start ratcheting up the intensity of both jams in spring 77. Englishtown is a classic (and maybe the longest?) but not one of the first

I don’t know really any part of 76 as well as I’d ought. and at the risk of offering a safe opinion, I love the 1/2 Step from the second 78 Red Rocks show. There’s a melodicism in that jam that slays me

there’s no way to say this and not sound like a fan boy, but Baton Hall was one of the first tapes I had and I listened to it constantly for years. Every note is etched in my DNA, it’s a major reason I’m a Deadhead and a musician. I’m glad there’s so much more other Dead out there to enjoy, but parts of my soul resonante Barton’s frequencies

One problem with this show as your point of entry: All the other Morning Dews kind of suck.

I like the Dew from Cornell, but I’ve never put in on a pedestal.

snow_and_rain - Tue May 09, 2017 12:40 pm
Even so, I think I’ll probably vote Cornell in the new poll. Need to hear Boston again tho.

But my gut says I agree with Derf on this one

had to detox from too much May 77, so I played some Dylan last night. Remember those talks I gave last year? well I’ve been playing a few Dylan tunes since then and I *murdered* them last night

Played some acoustic songs with a friend at a gathering this wknsd. He’s not necessarily a big Dead/Jerry fan, but we did play Tom Thumb’s, Run for the Roses and some other Dylan stuff. I thought we rocked it.
