honest: I didn’t listen to them much beyond the scope of my project. It’s interesting stuff that gets me going on multiple levels, but it’s not what I jam to. My advisor told me *not* to write on the Dead, and the academic trade winds blow against a straight-up "classical" Indian project (plus no funding to travel to India), so I picked a topic that interested me and went with it

hmm - why not the Dead? from an academia perspective, why would an advisor shut that down as a doctoral focus?
