I never really grasped how many bands Owsley must have run sound for -- I knew he worked with Jefferson Starship and I think also with the Sons(?), but there are 1200something non-GD ’sonic journal’ tapes, then there must have been tons more

Really enjoying Doc and Merl, just classic old timey tunes, love how Doc tells us whats going to be played and what instrument Merle is going to play etc..., he is astute to his environment

Re: Dylan lecture: that thing was no better than an average high school essay; I gave up halfway through the thuddingly awful Moby Dick synopsis. Fuel for the literature skeptics

I kind of loved the HS-essay style Dylan lecture, right down to the fact that it turned it in the second before it was due :ike:

the smooth cocktail-hour piano accompaniment on the recording is also kind of amazing

 I’ll have to give it another listen with the assumption that it’s a HS essay parody. But from that perspective, I wish he had used the word "robust" a few times.

I wish my HS essays could have earned me $900,000 a pop. I’d have stuck in a few extra classical references, too.

that fact that BD delivers lines like "Moby Dick is a seafaring tale. One of the men, the narrator, says, Call me Ishmael" with a straight face is kind of amazing

I’m sure anyone who cares about the Nobel Prize for Literature appreciates the plot summaries

that speech = priceless. 5 albums of Dylanatra = not so much.

Re: "Moby Dick is a seafaring tale. One of the men, the narrator, says, Call me Ishmael" That’s the exact point at which I had to stop reading. :Iroll: Maybe the recorded version, with the tinkle of ivories, makes it bearable.

37 years ago the roadies were well on their way to Anchorage. Yesterday the sun set at 11:40PM up there. Can you imagine walking out of a show at 11:30 at night to watch the sunset? :dosed: :flower:
